Canada"s economic, population and cultural core has been affected by global economic turmoil. Downturn driven by the following factors: decline of us market post 2008 recession, chinese manufactured goods displacing local manufacturers, western provinces outpacing ontariogrowth rates, no help from provincial government due to debt. Western canada and bc economic boom, imported manufactured goods, rather than buying goods from ontario. Physiographic regions: great lakes- st. lawrence lowlands, canadian shield, hudson bay lowlands. Climatic zones: arctic, subarctic, great lakes- st. lawrence. Ontario accounts for much of canada"s agricultural output by value. Soils less fertile/growing season shorter east of toronto, than southwest of toronto. Three specialized agriculture zones west of toronto: essex-kent vegetable area, norfolk tobacco belt, niagara fruit belt. Air pollution: caused by automobile dependency, more efficient engines reduce exhaust fumes, but this is not enough, caused by coal-burning thermoelectric plants, moving away from coal has become slow.
