Requires demonstration of 3rd person harm to justify intervention. Interventions aiming at using info. and rhetoric to change behaviour is allowed. Main focus: individual rights (limited role of government) Not the government"s job to tell people what is good/what to value (be neutral) Public wants to limit power of absolute rulers. Under democracy, limits are unnecessary b/c abusive leaders can be voted out of power (carry out will of the people) Democracy still has ability to oppress minority populations. Risks loss of individuality and individual liberty to collective opin (majority rules) Community exerts power on mem to conform to certain practices w use of laws. Tendency of society to imp their own ideas and practic punishment. Ex. specific behaviours the "good opinion members es w/o impose ctices of specific behaviours.
