Cam: group of diverse medical and health care systems, pracices, and products that aren"t presently considered to be part of convenional medicine. The list changes coninually because proven safe and efecive become part of convenional medicine and inefecive therapies are dropped. Also known as unconvenional, non-convenional, unproven, irregular medicine or health care. Cam therapies yet answered through designed studies about safety and eicacy. Convenional medicine: praciced by md/do and by their allied health professionals. Also known as orthodox, regular medicine, western, biomedicine, allopathy, mainstream. Alternaive: medicine use in place of convenional medicine. Integraive medicine: combines mainstream medical therapies and cam therapies for which there"s some high quality evidence of safety and efeciveness. Major types of cam: whole system, mind-body intervenions, natural products. 1/3 has used cam before in past 12 months. Thousands of dollars are being spent out of pocket on cam. How do we look at evidence and rate quality of research.
