Symbol signifier arbitrarily relates to the signified. Unless it is taught, you would know the meaning. Design to represent the sounds of a language. Denotation the literal or descriptive meaning. Connotation the individual, personal, or cultural meaning. A chain of events in cause-effect relationship occurring in time and space. Relies on the viewer to pick up notes, anticipate action, and recall information. Tells a story, and a story delivers a message at the end. The stages of a narrative arc (the plot) that builds the story for the message.
