Strategy Games
● Example - Civilization
4X Games
● 4X computer games are subgenre of strategy games
○ Gameplay involves building an empire, which takes place in a setting such as
Earth, a fantasy world, or in space
● Each player takes control of diff civilization/race w/ unique characteristics of strengths
● Most 4X games represent racial differences w/ collection of economic & military bonuses
● Players control empire & “eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, and eXterminate”
○ Explore - players send scouts across map to reveal surrounding territories
○ Expand - players claim new territory by creating new settlements or sometimes
by extending certain settlements
○ Exploit - players gather & use resources in areas they control & improve
efficiency of that usage
○ Exterminate - attacking & eliminating rival players
