Economy increases, so the wealthy increase through capitalism they are more powerful than the aristocracy. French revolution creates a solid nation where everyone is the same. When the king is overthrown the sovereignty of the nation lays in the hands of the people. The french were poor; so there suffering was a way to attach a sense of identity and create an emotional connection (politics appeals to your emotion pathos) This was patronizing because in theory it claimed that: the poor are suffering and they need to be saved; and the only one who can do that is me.
