Process of producing the acousic paterns of speech by nonhuman means. Von kempelen (1791) speaking machine is based on source-ilter theory. In 1845, joseph faber exhibited his wonderful talking machine called euphonia. Consisted of a talking head that spoke by manipulaing it with foot pedals and a keyboard. With 16 keys (represent 16 sounds) allows to produce every word in all european languages. The 17th key opened and closed, which is the glois. Models speech producion in terms of mechanical moions of ariculators and changes in sound pressure. Generate speech by controlling the speech ariculators, which results in a change in the shape of the vocal tract. Controllable vocal tract serves as a ilter with its own resonance characterisics. Takes into account speaker facial expressions and mouth movements. Talking head an animated 3d model face on a computer display that can speak the text given from keyboard.
