Goals: this lecture is dedicated to the description and analysis of inflection classes, like noun declension classes, which are a kind of suppletive allomorphy at the level of the lexeme. After giving a review of suppletive allomorphy, this mode of analysis will be used to look at selected cases from the book and different factors in choosing allomorphs (e. g. , semantic, morphological, lexical) will be identified. Also, analyses using both word syntax and word schemas will be given. After completing the reading and lecture, the student should be able to identify and classify inflection classes and understand the analytical issues (i. e. , syntax versus schemas) surrounding them. Keywords: suppletive allomophy, lexeme (review); inflection class, declensions, conjugations, influences in selection of allomorphs, schemas. Definition: inflection class, a class of lexemes that inflect in a particular way; or, suppletion at the level of the lexeme. Illustration: three most common declensions in oe (roughly 70%)
