Document Summary

Assignment 4: avian viruses are more likely to infect birds than humans because the avian influenza virus. Ha binds to the 2,3 linkage between sialic acid and galactose. Humans have an 2,6 linkage to which the avian influenza virus ha doesn"t bind to preferentially. Reverse transcriptase, packaged in virion, makes ds dna and host rna polymerase makes viral genome. Cytoplasm on the surface of er derived vesicles. Cytoplasm: similarities: hiv and poliovirus both have a (+)rna. Hiv replicates through a dna intermediate using both viral and host cell polymerases (viral rt, host rnap) and transcription activators (tat and host nf- b), whereas poliovirus uses only viral proteins to replicate viz (-)rna. The hiv (+)rna genome is first transcribed into a (-)dna intermediate using a hiv reverse transcriptase (rt) in the cytoplasm. The complementary (+)dna is then synthesized using the rt, which decreases the (+)rna.
