Eif4a is a helicase to unwind secondary structures in the mrna. Proteins (initiation factors) and the initiation met-trna team up with the small subunit to get ready for translation. The pre-initiation complex scans from cap until it hits the first aug. Now that everything is in place, eif5b carries over a 60s subunit. It triggers eif2 to hydrolyze its gtp- and its own. Eif2 changes shape and displaces the other if"s on the 40s subunit. Ef-tu to bring loaded trna"s to the ribosome. Ef-g to translocate the peptidyl trna from the a site to the p site. The first elongation step in bacteria: binding of the second aminoacyl-trna. Elongation requires the 70s initiation complex, aminoacyl trnas, and a set of three elongation. Factors, ef-tu (think ef-2, like if-2), ef-ts and ef- g, and gtp. Gtp is hydrolyzed and ef-tu-gdp complex is released the gtp-ef-tu complex is regenerated with the help of ef-ts.
