PHIL 100W Lecture Notes - Lecture 19: Reflectance
Document Summary
What you can"t expect when you"re expecting - paul. When making momentous decisions, we approach issue by imaginatively projecting ourselves into options at hand. When ppl decide whether to have children, they imagine what it would be like to have children & then base their conclusion off that. Paul will argue this is irrational regardless of decision you come to. Paul connected w/ whether decision rational, not whether it is moral. Even if it were rational to have a child there might be moral reasons not to, & even if it were irrational there might be moral reasons to do it anyway. Giving full consideration of all relevant interests that should go into deciding whether to have child goes beyond scope of paper. Any experience where we can"t properly judge what it will be like to have experience before having experiences. Epistemically transformative experiences that are personally meaningful.
