Harry frankfurt: freedom of the will and the concept of a person. Frankfurt is a compaibilist: every event is causally necessitated by antecedent (t, we have freewill (t) He argues that the issue of freewill and determinism can be resolved via an analysis of what a person is. Human beings are not alone in having desires, moives, or making choices: ex. your dog might choose to eat your dinner or not; your cat may choose to use the liter box or not. It is characterisics of humans, frankfurt argues, that we have a capacity for relecive self-evaluaion that is manifest in the formaion of second-order desires: ex. Imagine you have a dog that is kind of chubby and you"re cooking bacon and your dog wants the bacon. But you would: we can quesion i want it but should i want to want it, second-order desires - desires about what your irst order desires is.
