Phys 101: Tutorial 1. Motion with constant acceleration + vectors
Instructions: Print and bring with you to your tutorial. Read it over, but do NOT work on until your
tutorial time. Bring a calculator.
Question 1: For each of the following motions draw: 1) a position vs time graph and a 2) a velocity vs
time graph (be as quantitative as possible in making the graphs, and label axes appropriately).
a) You are observing a vesicle travel down a long straight axon. It is initially moving at a constant
speed of 10 m/s towards the end of the axon for 10 seconds. You then see its speed
instantaneously double to 20 m/s and it continues to travel toward the end of the axon at this
speed for another 5 seconds, after which time it falls off and you stop observing it.
b) A ball is thrown upward from the edge of a cliff at 10 m/s. It rises above the cliff and then falls,
landing at the bottom of the cliff below 5.0 seconds later.
