29 views6 pages

Document Summary

Before, just newspaper, and many people excluded from information this way. End of 20th century: lots of what we know today. Mass media grew up with the economy. State ownership of media resources, control of info. Free market, capitalist, both for profit and for benefit of people. Most media relied on today, private profit-driven. As a result, there"s a filtering based on what companies are wanting/willing to show. Not a conspiracy, just common business sense. Newspapers have lost advertising money to technology-based. Difficult to measure correlation of ads in paper to spending. As a result, some turn to electronic base for their paper. Began because the state had the funds to report on news, business at the time didn"t. Now and then, also to promote and inform on regional and state-wide news. Complex relationship between politicians and the media. Both sides need the other, but want a favourable slant (to help campaign, to get reader"s attention)
