Elections = this is signi cant as elections are held in both democracies and non-democracies, this is signi cant as democracies have meaningful elections:: Universal suffrage = the right of all adult citizens to vote regardless of their gender, wealth or education. Gerrymander= the manipulation of the division of the country into electoral districts so as to bene t a particular party. Electoral systems = the basics : the system used to translate the votes that people cast into legislature and the selection of government voting has different implications in parliamentary and presidential government : Legislative elections = where all or most of a given political body is chosen. These are usually held for a nations primary legislate cosy, as distinguished from by- election and local elections. Presidential elections = election of president and vice president. Single-member district (smd) = an electoral system where voters in each electoral district elect a single representative to the legislature.
