Age differences: highest levels- young adulthood, just thinking . Sex differences: males- while doing repetitive tasks, females- future focused and problem solving. Often happens much later in the night. 90 minute cycles: early vs. later, age differences. Sleep walking: you can wake them, stage 3. Nightmares: stage 4, associated with stress, age differences, common, learn new pattern, uncommon (happens in some dogs too) Type of food consumed (low vs. high energy) Restorative theories: sleep as a restorative: helps restore tissues, evidence. Sleep more after exercise (slow wave sleep)
