Document Summary

Quantification: the quantification of psychological information (i. e. , numerical representation of psychological (cid:1154)objects(cid:1155) and/or (cid:1154)events(cid:1155)(cid:1176), usually for the purpose of making inferences based on mathematical/statistical techniques. (cid:1154)measurement is the assignment of numerals to objects or events according to rules. The fact that numerals can be assigned under different rules leads to different kinds of measurement(cid:1155) (stevens, 1946) Means that you can measure anything, but there are certain ways you can measure certain things. Nominal scale: numerals are assigned only as labels or type numbers, and words or letters would serve as well. Satisfies determination of equality (whether values are the same or different) Ordinal scale: arises from the operation of rank-ordering. Satisfies determination of equality & determination of greater or less (we can tell which one is higher/lower/less/more) Most scales used in psychology are of the ordinal type. Can determine that a value is greater than another; cannot tell by how much one is greater than the other.
