Document Summary

Null hypothesis testing can sort of get around the sampling problem. Sampling problem: with random sampling, we can never be sure that any one given sample will truly be representative of the population. Must know all 7 steps of the null hypothesis testing. Will not be given the steps on a test. Will be tested on what happens at each step and why each is conducted. Step 1: state the population distribution of the random variable(s) of interest. Remember that we don"t know what the parent population is and what to expect from our test statistics (i. e. what is the mean, the median, etc. ) We can perform certain mathematics on this hypothetical world. Step 2: state the null and alternative hypotheses. Null hypothesis (h0): states what is expected of the given parameter(s) of interest when there is no interesting (cid:1154)effect(cid:1155)
