Document Summary
Attribution theory: the way that people explain their own and other people"s behavior- how people explain the causes of behaviour. People act like naive scientists , try to workout the reasons for other people"s behavior. Internal attributions: explanations for behavior based on a person"s characteristics or personality. External attribution: explanations for behavior based on the situation or social context. The covariation model: theory stating that to form an attribution about what caused a persons behavior, we systematically note the pattern between the presence of possible casual factors and whether or not the behavior occurs. We notice and think about more than one piece of information when we form an impression of another person: you"ll examine multiple instances of the behavior occurring at different times in different situations in the past. When we are forming an attribution, we gather data that will help reach a judgment.
