The social context has the most powerful effect on behaviour. The way people personally interpret their social situations often influences behaviour more than the objective reality. Summarize the key points of a peer-reviewed journal article. Common sense does not always provide the best answers. They have an emotional appeal, but not the reality when we use research methods to. Good for conducting research, directed studies, grad school. Theories: organized set of principles we use to explain observations. Hypothesis: testable statement about the relationship between two variables. Take the two variables and put them into a statement that we can actually test. People with higher self-esteem will have more friends. A theory can have more than one hypotheses within it. Description of how variables will be measured or manipulated. Choosing how to bring a social psychological concept to life in a study. Social psychologists are measuring broad things, so operationalization is ideal. Measure love by measuring happiness a partner is experiencing.
