The criminal forensic population can be broken down into 3 broadly defined groups. These groups are determined by the extent to which mental disorder is the target of treatment (intervention). Sexual offenders, those who are considered to be at high risk for violence and whom intervention strategies would target risk reduction or risk management. Chapter 5 (mental disorder as a primary focus of intervention)] Mental disorder becomes a primary issue in the involvement with the justice system. = becomes the primary focus of intervention or treatment. They"re are 2 types of cases in which this occurs . Ncrmd/unfit during this period: latimer & lawrence project that the population will continue to grow, and by 2015 there will be an additional 2,000 cases of individuals found ncrmd or unfit in the system. They suggest two reasons for this increase: courts are more likely to find an accused ncrmd or unfit, more defendants are raising the issue of mental disorder in court.
