Research can"t prove, can only disprove the opposite. We shouldn"t be too invested in results: the problem: labs do get too invested. What interventions could we use, if not medical: in everyday life: listening, self-monitoring, calm-down strategies (e. g. breathing, small town in belgium. Families not told disorder of person accept abnormal behaviors, they become normative. Psychopathology: maladaptive way of thinking or interacting with the world causes suffering: example: attachment is adaptive (kids need love from parents) Parents inflict own desires on kids and messes the kids up . Kids need love, so they change their behavior so that parents will love them. E. g. they may care for parents, suppress their own feelings, etc. E. g. not being able to say no because of overly emotionally-invested parents kids are pushing their own needs down (depression = to push down) Kids weren"t seen as developing, behaviors not seen as a result of suffering from the world.
