Lect 1, ch1 themes and issues in adult dev and aging. Seeks to understand how and why people of all ages and circumstances change or remain the same over time. Approach to the study of human development that takes into account all phases of life, not just childhood or adulthood. Adulthood is traditionally seen as "moving away" (in some form) from your parents=western idea. In the past, people grew up faster and moved out faster b/c houses were cheaper, more jobs available, war positions. Identity: how pple view themselves in the biological, psychological, and social domains of life = view of self. = organize the study of adult development and aging using the biopsychosocial model. Bodily functions, structures change through age, genetics (but can affect from enviro=epigenetics) Thoughts, feelings, and behaviors related to growth (cog, personality, emotions) There"s a core personality that"s always the same?)
