Document Summary

Psyc 362 lecture 4 - social cognitive processes. Social cognition - how our thoughts can be influenced by our expectations or beliefs about a person. Social cognition: cognitive processes about how we process social information. Has been applied to close relationships and other areas. How we think about close relationships is an application of these types of theories/processes. We are cognitive misers: we try to save mental energy. Means we don"t have to spend a lot of time when we encounter a new situation or a new person. But it may mean that we have biases. Let"s discuss the three social cognition processes further . Beliefs: idea or theory about what the world is like. E. g. couples that fight a lot are unhappy. Romanticism: belief that love is the most important basis for a relationship. Feelings of romanticism are initially associated with greater love, satisfaction, and commitment.
