Easily dismiss stereotypes that aren"t well integrated into our understanding of relevant social situations. Some widely held stereotypes change dramatically as the intergroup relations change. Stereotype (new): beliefs about the shared characteristics of members of a group. Lead to evaluation that are positive, negative, neutral. Held in in-group (self stereotype), ourselves (self-stereotyping) Allow us to know the world better. Color blindness : ignoring categories/ avoiding stereotyping treat everyone as a generic individual. What does an individual look like: where does stereotypes of a person come from, even harder end up treating them as a member of your own group.
