Early 1900s - provincial & national health promotion programs begin. 1974 - lalonde"s report identified healthy lifestyle as a promotion target. 1986 - epp provides framework for health promotion in canada still used today. Locus of responsibility for health rests w/ the individual. 1987 - labonte identifies 3 levels for successful health promotion. Public health - goal is disease prevention. Socioenvironmental - goal is social change & healthy public policy. Health promotion programs aimed at reducing health-related inequities. Health inequities linked w/ culture, geography, education, income. E. g. poorer health associated w/ low-income status or aboriginal status. Age-related health concerns - e. g. prevalence of smoking among adolescents. Occupation-related health concerns - e. g. increased stress levels, harmful exposure. Promotion of self-care - encouraging indivs to look after themselves.
