Why would you make podcasts and zines: people publish for reasons that are not just making money, concerns with getting a message out about something you really care. This is what the readings got at this week about. Publishing should be a place where we all see ourselves represented: tokenistic ideas can arise from this, representation can very quickly turn into ownership that is put on an individual. If there is one story/author in the scope, people believe that is all the representation that is needed. Does not make grammatical sense to call a single person diverse": diversity has become catch phrase for referring to people who are not the. Individuals and their stories are suddenly expected to represent whole cultures and communities: massive burden is put on people who are from minority groups that is. 2012: 93% of children"s books featured white children as the main characters.
