Be able to explain terence ranger and eric hobsbawm"s idea of invented traditions . Myth: s tory that recounts how various aspects of the world came to be the way they are and makes life meaningful for those who accept it. America was born out of bill of rights, declaration of independence, with national identity of freedom, upheld by traditions of right to bear arms, etc. This is the story of how we came to be as a nation, our origins. Traditions which appear or claim to be old are often quite recent in origin and sometimes invented. Are governed by implicit or explicit rules or norms. Can be ongoing or linked to a certain time or event. May or may not refer to national traditions.
