Loops are to be avoided at all costs! In a ring topology, we have four switches for example. All topologies exept the bus topology have loops. having redundant links improves reliability of transferring information and packets. we do not want to physically remove the links, but we wnat to logically define the tree. In data structures, a tree has a root and branches. Where switches exchange information, ie s1 transfers info to s2 and back and forth. Stp allows switches to talk to each other, and they communicate via bpdu. Bridge id mean that each switch has a unique bridge id. Bridge id=priority# + base mac address of switch. A switch has its own base mac address. Priority number is a number that is factory number. Root bridge=bridge that will be the root of the tree. When we have stp on all the switches it will send the bridge id of each switch.
