Document Summary

Apomixis is the production of seeds without the joining of genetic material. Can also be replicated via vegetative reproduction (budding off, clonal stands) Flower a series of modified leaves on a pedicel. Adapted for pollination (dispersal of pollen) getting pollen from where it is. Wind dispersed pollen will be located on stamens exposed to the wind. Shapes and colors of flowers are adaptations for pollination. Orchids adapted to mimic the shape of a female wasp, so male wasps will produced to a different plant land on the and disperse pollen. The anthers are the sporangia producing part of the stamen. All stamens together form the androcium (and all pistols together form the gynecium) The gametophyte generation is the pollen & ovule (?) In the sporangium of the stamen (in the anther), meiosis produces microspores. Microspores are immature pollen, which are immature male plants.
