Document Summary

Reading assignment is up for next week = a lot! Not a lot of defined practices in water restoration. For the most part everything is biological or ecological problems and not engineering problems. Land that is prone to gullying needs to be reversed to prevent gullying or farming practices need to be reversed. Slope restoration: difference between cut slopes and fill slopes. Urban habitats are directly related to impervious surfaces. Best management practices (bmp): hold the water back. Retention pond: has a pipe in the middle of the pond so once the depth reaches a certain height the pond will begin to outflow. Detention pond: has an outflow at one end of the pond. Infiltration trenches: excavation on sides of the roads that are filled with rocks to create porous ground allowing the water to soak in. Permeable pavement (porous asphalt): are good ideas but work poorly in environments with continually freeze and thaw.
