HKIN 215 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Color Vision, Visual Cortex, Retina
Document Summary
Outline: vision, basic anatomy, neural components, visual pathway, techniques to investigate role of vision in action, role in vision in motor control. Vision and motor control: vision is our preferred source of sensory information, evidence from everyday experiences: beginning typists look at their fingers; beginning dancers look at their feet, evidence from research: the classic moving room experiment . Senses: vision, hearing, touch, smell, taste: each provides information for the same behaviours. 13-16 month old children placed in swinging room . Same effects not seen with the adults: results with toddlers: 26% swayed, 23% staggered, 33% fell down, adult test: trying to balance on a narrow beam with eyes open first and then closed. Contains no blood vessels (which normally protect against dust and debris: obtain protection from tears and aqueous fluid. It is curved, allowing it to help focus light on the retina: must remain transparent to allow light to come into the retina.
