What we deem to be sport is male sport and female sport is always compaired. Success in sports = being good at masculinity. Female body = body-object: merely flesh, sport requires a body-subject, contradiction between sport and women"s bodies, if women do participate in sport they are either not really wom- en or they are not really playing sport. Published in 1979: are young girls still discouraged from participating in physical activity, do boys have more opportunity for institutionalized sport, body image.
