Receives information from the brain, which receives information from sensory re- ceptors, and sends neural signals to the body. Produces reflexive movements, without sensory information even needing to be transmitted: peripheral nervous system (pns) o. Transmits signals between brain and the rest of the body. Contains the nerves that control the skeletal muscles, via voluntary movements, re- flexes, etc. o: autonomic nervous system. Responsible for involuntary movements and automatic behaviours out of our con- scious control, ex: heart rate, sweating, organ function, breathing, etc: sympathetic nervous system. Prepares the body for action in times of stress. Ex: increases heart rate, dilates pupils, initiate sweating, releases adrenaline, speeds breathing, etc. Prepares muscles to physically respond to threat by directing energy to the parts of the body that will be needed in the response, ie: energy in the form of glucose: parasympathetic nervous system.
