Document Summary

Attributional ambiguity: when you"re uncertain about why someone treated you a certain way. sometimes we create the prejudices ambiguously/unintentionally, so it creates even more ambiguity on the receiving end. Students were given a test, half could be seen, half not, White students had no impact in the seen or not seen condition when they received negative feedback. Black students attributed their negative feedback to bias when they could be seen, but did not differ from white students when they couldn"t be seen. A similar study was done but looked at esteem levels prior to the negative feedback. People with low self esteem took the feedback more harshly, People with high self esteem had outward directed emotions such as the person hiring was prejudice. If you"re aware of the stereotype it can alter your performance (stereotype threat) can have bias questions (cid:498)who was the president during the civil war(cid:499) - for a test.
