Document Summary

Mood vs. self esteem : may be reliable but not valid. Might not be what you wish to measure. Types of validity know what it is measuring. Face validity (least important) : whether the measure appears to measure. Ex: ntb (need to belong) measure: 10-15 questions where they. Ex: 1-item se measure you only need to look at the question to what it"s suppose to measure. clearly ask (cid:498)do you feel the need to belong? (cid:499) >some times this is however unwanted. ex: when measuring loneliness you do not want people to know you are measuring this. Because loneliness is not socially desirable and people may not be honest about their answers because they do not want to seem as though they are lonely (even if it is anonymous). You would ask questions involving prejudice, but you would not ask whether they were prejudice. Predictive or criterion validity: whether the measure predicts expected criteria external to the measure.
