Transitional - replaces what already exists with something completely new, requires the organizations to depart from old methods. Transformational - transforms the future state from the current state dramatically, outcomes are unknown. Achieved through trial and error, employees must change. Transformational leaders: leaders who inspire followers to transcend their own self- interests and who are capable of having a profound and extraordinary effect on followers. They use : idealized motivation, intellectual stimulation, individualized consideration. Theory e - short term, creates shareholder value, changes structures and systems and is top driven. ( bonuses, asset sales) Theory o - short to long term, develops organizational capabilities, develops an organizational culture that supports learning and high performance employees. (flatter structure, increases bonds between employee/employer) Unfreezing - change effort to overcome the pressures of both individual resistance and group conformity. Moving - efforts to get employees involved in the change process.
