Kinship systems: systems by which people reckon relationships by blood. Supposed to be a biological relationship, but it is relative depending on different cultures. These systems are based on what people"s beliefs are on conception and reproduction, from where babies from. The most basic grouping system people have is kinship. This system determines which people are your relatives, and which aren"t. system of assigning roles and statutes to individuals in the group based on their kin relations to one another. Ethnographers- people who study living cultures by living amongst them and following their lifestyles and collect genealogies. Genealogies are family trees/histories to help us learn about family collections and it also gives an idea of how deep their time depth of knowledge is. Genealogical method-asking people about their family history. Helps us get a sense of what all the kinship terms are and their association to each other. Mardu- not acceptable for a man to name/refer to his mother-in-law.
