Advocate anthropology uses anthropology to increase the power and self-determination or particular marginalized group. Development anthropology is a branch of applied anthropology focused on the social and cultural dimensions of economic, etc. development that works to make sure development projects are culturally appropriate. Bronislaw malinowski advocated that practical anthropology could be of use in governing the colonies. During wwii it was also used to study german and japanese culture. The usa also used projects such as civil operations and revolutionary development support (cords) for the vietnam. War and the human terrain system (hts) during the wars in iraq and afghanistan.
