Destroys the immune system: body is open to infections; can lead to death. Virus targets: helper t cells, macrophages, dendritic cells, and langerhans cells. They battle the virus in early stages of infection, however over time the body"s ability to replace them will diminish, and will be unable to keep up with the mutating virus. Without helper tcells and macrophages, b cells cannot form plasma cells = responsible for making antibodies to fight infection.
