COIS 1010H Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Water Cooling, Flash Memory
Document Summary
All short answer questions and definitions will be provided. Midterm content is not on the final exam. Need to take notes on what the prof says because the slides do not contain all the information. Motherboard: central piece for all the other things to connect to, does not do very much on its own but connects everything. Cpu: (core processor unit) brain of the computer: cell phones today tend to have multiple cores, most of the processes that happen in ur computer cannot be evenly split between cores. Word size controls what the cpu is capable of processing. Memory that is closer to the cpu, the faster it is and the smaller it is: typically memory gets bigger as it gets slower. You can send one bit on one wire at a time (bus width) If you have a 16 bit bus, you can transfer 16 bits of info simultaneously.
