Evenness= (relative) the evenness of pop #"s between different species. >if a population disperses from a certain area, they become isolated from the genetic flow". > this is known as the founders effect. Living things are not distributed evenly across the globe. > majority of species live close to the equator. > wild and rare species can improve food security. These are services free and overall provide us with a standard of living. 99% + species that ever existed are now extinct. Humans at top of predator on land + ocean. # of species on an island is a factor of : > large islands will have a greater # of species than a smaller island. Increase the distance = less # of species. Distance from shoreline will mean low immigration rates.
