Jessie daniel ames wanted a lynch free year. 6 months passed without a lynch before a mob burned a black man. Ida b wells challenged the idea that lynching was to stop rape but rather to prevent interracial relation ships. Lynching was designed to take away power from black men. White men were in fact the savages (not the manly protectors of white women but rather the cowardly murderers of black men) Naacp founded in 1909 (debois was an early leader as well as ida wells) Naacp presented the mod of white men as the criminals (published report) Began printing lynching photographs in their magazine. Lynching was a ritual that helped unify white people as superior and black people inferior. Would sing this song at club (all services would stop while she would sing the song) When done the sone she immediately sung the song. The decline of lynching (great migration 1920s-1940s)
