The north west rebellion and aboriginals in 19th century canada. Riel is guilty of treason: first ime an armed uprising against the canada government (led the insurrecion, blood was spilled because of riel, wanted for the murder of thomas scot. Riels execuion was the symbolic end to an era, meis eforts to control the north. West, not just the death of a single individual: no quesion of who owned the land of the west. The issue of the meis and aboriginals during this ime was not a story of loss, but one of resistance; showed how much they were willing to try and challenge government authority. The arrival of canadian troops changed the dynamic: meant that meis leadership was pushed out, meis authority was changed to canadian authority. Meis lost control of the management of the land: breakdown in order, the troops see themselves as an army of occupaion, geing revenge from the events of the past.
