Hausa were of islam religion but did not practice. Took over all the towns of the hausa and created the sokoto caliphate. Fulani gathered an army and showed their dissatisfaction towards the hausa. Usman dan fodio founder of sokoto caliphate, his movement had a lot of momentum, he got other people to lead the people in battle, he was strictly religious leader. Sokoto caliphate islamic empire/kingdom, muslim state, this is where nigeria is (british conquered and called it this)
