The drinking of coffee is embedded in a set of complex transactions that link the person drinking it to how the coffee gets to them. Social relations concern- who owns what, who does what, who gets what, what do they do with it. Social relations surrounding food are about: who owns the property, who does the work, who gets the money, how is the money used. Land can be owned by a person other than the person who owns it. If you do not own the land, the wage you are paid may not reflect the cost of producing the product. If the person does own the land, the money is often used for purchasing necessities.
