Indigenous people are custodians of some of the most biologically diverse territories in the world. Indigenous knowledge has been and continues to be an invaluable resource. The protection and enjoyment of culture is central to minority and indigenous peoples rights. A way of life, ceremonies, literature, how one produces, the technology one uses, the arts and crafts, how one handles their environment. Most indigenous people now live within nation states. Often the indigenous were never consulted during colonization. In most countries the indigenous are considered a minority and are in danger of losing their culture. There is a debate in whether we should use the terms indigenous nations , or indigenous. The world bank sidestepped this debate by using the term indigenous populations . Lands, territories, cultures, and identities are linked. Dispossession means economic impoverishment and loss of culture and identity. They form at present non-dominant sectors of society and are determined to preserve, develop and transmit to future generations.
