PSYC 3780H Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Dream Interpretation, Dream Diary, Waking Life
Document Summary
We know that dreams are psychologically meaningful. They have clinical value useful for the clinician and the patient. They are often the treatment of choice for some disorders and waking day concerns (ptsd, nightmares). There is an increased interest in dream material by clinicians and by patients. Clinicians are beginning to see the value of dream therapy, and patients usually want to know what their dreams mean. Dreams relate to waking day concerns (decicco, 2007; schredi, 2010). Specific dreams are related to psychological well-being (zadra & donderi, 2000). Dreams from psychopathology differ from those who do not have a mental disorder (kramer, 2000). Dreams are related to physical health (king & decicco, 2007). There is a relationship to drug abuse (iowers & zweben, 1996). Dreams are related to eating disorders (brink & allan, 1992). Also related to existential issues (davis & hill, 2001). We have seen clinical evidence of benefits.
