PSYC 3780H Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Life Review, Dream Interpretation, Tim Hortons
Document Summary
With extensive knowledge of dream practices, it is possible to know the age, gender, and culture of an individual simply by looking at their dream. The reason for this is because different dreams represent different stages of life. 2-5 year olds different than 6-9 year olds. Not only do they differ by age, but also by gender. When looking at the dreams of children, you can see their home life, school, friends, social activities. Women"s dreams: more indoor settings, characters, home and family themes. Women"s dreams have more friendly interactions and more emotions are described. Men"s dreams tend to have more aggression, and concern with their success/failure in their dreams. Dreams of adults, both men and women, all differ across culture. They tend to have fewer characters and these were more likely to be family members/relatives. As people age and their outside world becomes smaller, then their dreams completely represent this.
