PSYC 3780H Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Electrodermal Activity, Dreamtime
Document Summary
The purpose of research is to produce a knowledge base. We are constantly acquiring new information, but sometimes, the information we get is contradictory to our intuitive sense or to information that we already have. It is very difficult for most people to assimilate new information into their model; this is especially true for scientists. Especially is the knowledge contradicts previous information. Ancient societies knew the importance of dream information research had to catch up to the information already known to people. Early studies found the largest changes in cardiovascular activity while dreaming: this was a tip-off that perhaps dreaming and dream-time was a very important phenomena for the human being. It was found that the galvanic skin response (gsr) was associated with emotions recalled in dreams. This early research was tipping people off to the notion that dreams were emotional and very important to the dreamer. Gsr correlated with strong emotions in dream-time.
